Dior, Prada, Etro, Rabanne, and the younger brands such as Alain Paul, Maitre Pierre and Vaquera, will show a new trend during the Milan and Paris fashion weeks in September 2024: ‘Athletic Chic’. In fact, the aesthetic has been around since Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, before it gained momentum in the 1980s with the development of sports. At the time, the trend was to put together an outfit from sports equipment, or to be inspired by it. Later, a multitude of collaborations emerged between luxury and designer brands with sportswear labels, eventually leading to the latter’s takeover of the footwear market.…

Here, fabrics designed by artificial intelligence took center stage, demonstrating the versatility and innovation that machine learning can bring to fashion’s color palette. More and more designers are incorporating this futuristic approach into their collections and today artificial intelligence (AI) is an integral part of the design process. It is not that AI eliminates the need for a real designer, but rather it supports his or her creativity. Designers Selvi Yiğci and Gönül Altunışık, co-founders of Istanbul’s independent fashion…

For years, Milan Fashion Week was by far the sexiest of the Big Four. Comfort wasn’t a priority and fashion was all about seduction. But those days seem to be over – for now, anyway. Instead, Milan’s catwalks this season offered a sense of magical realism. The spring/summer 2025 collections teetered between past and future, with some designers looking back at times gone by through rose-tinted glasses, while others followed Alice down the rabbit hole into a world of wonder. Yet many chose to simply celebrate the everyday and embrace the magic of the ordinary. The everyday past One such…
Several years after the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden took steps to ban PFAS substances from the EU, a partial ban has now been introduced by the European Commission. It concerns a subgroup of PFAS (poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances), according to a statement from the commission. The ban will specifically apply to undecafluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA) and related substances. “These substances are very persistent and mobile in water and their use in certain products poses an unacceptable risk to human health and the environment,” the message states. The substance is used in raincoats, among other things, but is also found…
