Last Sunday, Princess Charlotte attended the men’s singles final at Wimbledon with her parents and her older brother George.
Kate Middleton, patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, appeared in one emerald green dress by London designer Emilia Wickstead. She paired the look with brown pumps from Ralph Lauren, a bag from DeMellier and jewelry from Van Cleef & Arpels and Halcyon Days.
Next to her mother, 11-year-old Charlotte wore a light blue dress, Ray-Ban sunglasses and a charm bracelet reminiscent of a beloved piece of jewelry that Princess Diana once received as a gift.
According to various reports, Diana received a charm bracelet as a gift after her marriage to Charles in 1981. In the ten years that followed, he added a new charm every wedding anniversary to. The bracelet ultimately included a pair of ballet shoes, a polo cap, a pig, an apple and a miniature of St Paul’s Cathedral, the church where the couple got married.
There were also two charms on the bracelet with the initials ‘H’ and ‘W’, as a reference to their sons, Prince Harry and Prince William. The bracelet was said to be so dear to Princess Diana that she gave it to her rarely in public wore.
This is not the first time that Princess Charlotte has subtly referenced Princess Diana with her jewelry. During Trooping the Colour, the annual military parade in honor of King Charles’ official birthday in June, the young princess wore a bracelet with three strands of pearls that once belonged to Diana.
Although the charm bracelet that Charlotte wore during the Wimbledon final last Sunday not an heirloom is, the strong resemblance to Diana’s beloved bracelet feels special and moving tribute.
The Wales family sat in the front row of Center Court and were met upon arrival a standing ovation received. Princess Charlotte, who, like her mother, is a… avid tennis fan would be, followed the match attentively. As she enthusiastically applauded the players, her charm bracelet sparkled in the sun.
