How do you train students to designers who are not only creative, but also agile, curious and socially aware? By bringing them into contact with practice from day one. At Artemis Academy we believe that practical experience is indispensable in the development of both hard skills and soft skills. And sometimes such a collaboration comes by that everything has: technology, sustainability, innovation and a good dose of creativity.
This year our third -year students within the Styling & Design module had the unique opportunity to work with Byborre – the textile company that makes internationally a name for innovative designs, sustainable processes and technological applications.
A glimpse into the future of textile
The kick -off took place in a special place: the inspiring building of Byborre in Amsterdam. There students were given an exclusive tour through the textile innovation studio and they were introduced to the BYBORRE platform platform – an online editor with which you can compile textile yourself. From color and texture to functionality and design: creative freedom is huge.
During the eight weeks that followed, students worked intensively with this technology. Their assignment: design an innovative textile application that optimally uses the power of the material. No restriction in product or target group – but a high bar.
From idea to impact
Under the guidance of subject expert and teacher Saskia Huiting, students went through the full design cycle:
- In -depth research into trends, material and technology
- Choice of textile development via the Byborre platform
- Concept development and prototyping
- Substantiation of choice of materials and durability
The result? A wide range of designs: from high-end fashion accessories to circular interior applications. Every project with a clear focus on innovation, storytelling and sustainability.
The practice as a stage
The collaboration ended in a pitch moment: students presented their designs to the BYBORRE team. An exciting and valuable moment, in which not only their creativity was tested, but also their ability to communicate professionally, process feedback and take responsibility.
CEO Mijke van Ballegooijen emphasizes the importance of this collaboration: “I see it as an important role for Byborre to contribute to increasing textile knowledge within design training. The influence of design decisions on the ecological footprint is often still underexposed. By working together in time, we are more conscious and inspiring this generation of these generation. Is crucial to change how textile is designed and applied – and to really get the industry moving. ”
More than an assignment
This design challenge was much more than a module. It was a learning experience that challenged students to experiment, make mistakes, to think critically and to collaborate with real professionals. Because that is the future of creative education: not only thinking in end products, but in impact. Not only learning to design, but learn why and how you make something. With Byborre as a pioneer and our students as a creative vanguard, we continue to build together on a sustainable, innovative design world.
