If millennial woman with both a personal and professional interest in style, I feel that any use of the word ‘jeggings‘ must be accompanied by a warning.
Jeggings?
Do you remember them, the stretch denim (or denim appropriation: printed and detailed to resemble) leggings billed as the easy, comfortable way to wear skinny jeans? Of course they are, because they dominated our wardrobes in the late 2000s and early 2010s. And now they’re back, but just a little bit different.
We’ve since found out jeans aren’t necessarily best painted on your skin, and we’ve gained a newfound appreciation for stiff denims, classic cuts and boyish silhouettes. Even if you’re totally on board with the skinny jeans revival, you probably still will jeggingss leave aside.
We all seem to be going for non-denim now – The new comfortable denim trend
But fashion has an endless capacity to surprise. And so I present to you nun-denim which needs no warning and makes a compelling case to add to your cart below.
How about cashmere denim? That is the proposal of the very chic, very luxurious, more than 100 years old Barriethe Scottish cashmere knitwear manufacturers that are one of Chanel’s Métiers d’Art houses. It trompe l’oeil denim jacket is already an icon of the house and now there’s a corresponding capsule with cut-off shorts, skirts and shirts alongside additional styles of the jacket.
Looking for something a little more laidback (read: affordable)? Good American recently completed theirJeanius Sweatscollection introduced. ‘Looks Like Denim, Feels Like Sweats‘, promises the brand. ‘Sleek Enough for the Streets, Soft Enough for the Couch‘.
So you have loose cotton sweatpants with fading, rivets, stitching and the like, or a terry vest that passes as a denim corset (but, I’m sure, is a lot more comfortable). The fact that one of the world’s favorite jeans brands are getting into the non-denim actsuggests that there is more than just a trend of the moment.
Unfortunately, the story was allowed to pass the origin of jeggings still puts you off, then let’s rewrite it: can we say instead that it’s a natural evolution of the ultra-luxury Bottega Veneta learning trompe l’oeil ‘jeans’ with which the formidably talented Matthieu Blazy started his period at the house? There you have it, it suddenly seems much more attractive.
