Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami are relaunching the iconic Multicolore collection from the 2000s. This relaunch includes the classic monogram handbags and introduces the signature design on modern models such as the Capucines and Coussin. In addition, beloved prints such as Panda, Cerises and Cherry Blossom return, celebrating the brand’s long-standing collaboration with Murakami.
The collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Japanese artist Murakami began in 2005 under the creative direction of Marc Jacobs and revolutionized the fashion world. Murakami’s colorful monogram, worn by celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, became a must-have worldwide. However, at the end of July 2015, Louis Vuitton stopped production of the Multicolore handbags, ending an era. Current designer Nicolas Ghesquière decided to leave the collection behind and focused on new designs for the brand.
Now, twenty years after their first collaboration, Louis Vuitton and Murakami present an exclusive reissue to mark this anniversary. The new collection, which will be available worldwide from January 1, 2025, consists of a limited edition of 200 pieces, including colorful bags and elegant silk scarves. A striking element of this relaunch is the playful redesign of the classic Louis Vuitton logo on iconic items such as the All In BB, Speedy, Keepall and Monogram Mules. Murakami’s famous Superflat technique (also called New Pop) is clearly evident here.
The campaign was photographed by the world-famous Dutch fashion photographer duo Inez & Vinoodh (Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin). The collection is enhanced by short films in which actress and Louis Vuitton ambassador Zendaya enters Murakami’s fantasy world via a mobile phone from the early 2000s. The campaign taps into the Y2K trend, which is popular among Generation Z (born between 1995 and 2003) and reintroduces the style of the early 2000s.
