As 2024 comes to an end, the question remains: Which trends will carry over into 2025 and which will remain as a memory? The digital platform Stylight, which acts as a global fashion aggregator for various fashion companies, investigated this question and shares the results in a report.
What is in fashion, and what is out of fashion in 2025? These are the most striking insights.
In: Sweaters with a polo collar
Stylight predicts that the polo collar sweater, although entrenched in the sports world, will regain its place in the fashion world by 2025. The product has grown by 71 percent interest and traffic on Stylight. This should come as no surprise: For SS25, more and more fashion brands are showing innovative combinations of sweaters with a polo collar on the catwalk, wrote FashionUnited editor Jayne Mountford.

From: The long denim skirt
Long denim skirts are down 20 percent in Google searches, according to Stylight. FashionUnited editor Julia Garel previously wrote about this declining trend: “It was seen on many celebrities in the summer of 2024, but next year the long denim skirt will fall out of favor in favor of a chicer model: the pencil skirt [of pencil skirt].” Stylight reports an 11 percent increase in interest in pencil skirts.

In: The wax coat
The wax jacket has increased in clicks by 68 percent and is, according to Stylight, ‘the jacket of 2025’. Fashion brands that continuously reinvent workwear, such as Dickies, Carhartt, Patagonia and Bonne Suits, will benefit from this revival in popularity. What is special is that wax jackets have been worn for decades by a variety of target groups in all levels of society. Think of people who do outdoor work, agricultural activities, but also celebrities and influencers.
From: Cowboy boots
What goes up like a rocket can also come down just as quickly. Also the demand for cowboy boots. According to Stylight, this has decreased by 12 percent in recent months. Cowboy boots were extremely popular, partly due to Beyoncé’s country album ‘Cowboy Carter’ and Taylor Swift’s Western-influenced Eras Tour, where fans bought Western-inspired fashion en masse.
In: The women’s suit
Partly due to the recent fashion shows of Saint Laurent women’s fashion: the revival of the women’s suit. Clicks to women’s suits have increased by 21 percent, Stylight reports. A suit is not only intended for special occasions or the office, but increasingly for everyday use.
From: Animal Prints
On Google Trends, searches for animal prints have dropped by 71 percent. However, Stylight predicts: “Animal print will never really go out of style. But we can say that in terms of fashion trends in 2025 it will no longer be one of the rising trends, but rather one of the falling ones.” As a tip, the fashion aggregator shares: “If you want to continue to rely on trendy prints and patterns in spring 2025, it is better to invest in timeless pieces, such as fashion with pinstripes.” Although searches for animal prints have declined, there are brands, such as Belgian fashion brand Dries Van Noten, that are breathing new life into the trend through the right color combinations.
