It is still not quiet at the H&M distribution center in Ghlin, Belgium. The location was temporarily evacuated and the police had to be involved, various media reported, including HLN.
Media reports say strikers and union representatives have detained members of management and non-striking staff. The police were called in to ensure that those involved could leave safely.
The unions deny that there is a hostage situation. The management was reportedly called to restart discussions. After that phone call, dozens of police cars and a bailiff suddenly appeared and helped executives leave the location. “I would like to emphasize that we have not detained anyone,” said trade unionist Philippe Dumportier of FGTB.
The distribution center has been on strike since April. The center’s activities would be halted, causing 440 employees to lose their jobs.
