The use of the messaging application Telegram in Spain will be temporarily suspended as of Monday, following a request from media companies. The order was issued by judge Santiago Pedraz of the Audencia Nacional, a high court which handles sensitive cases. Media companies, including Atresmedia, EGEDA, Mediaset, and Telefonica, complained that Telegram was allowing users to upload their content without permission. While the claims are being investigated, Pedraz agreed to block Telegram’s services in Spain. Mexican authorities said they rescued 42 hostages, including 18 children, who were kidnapped by criminal groups in the northwestern state of Sinaloa.
