Two very identical jackets, but one is from the Zara chain, the other from Belgian designer Tessa Borrenberghs. There will not be a lawsuit, but the designer is drawing attention to the incident in the media and on her own accounts.
Years ago, Borrenberghs designed the Oslo Coat – a coat with a lapel collar that can be worn in several ways. In Borrenberghs’ styling, the lapel was used as a scarf. A similar coat with similar styling is now in Zara’s collection.
The differences: The color of the jacket (grey striped at Borrenberghs, black at Zara) and the side where the lapel and breast pocket are opposite.
Borrenberghs is not planning a lawsuit, the chance of winning is uncertain and it entails a lot of costs. However, the designer does speak out against VRT, among others, in order to motivate consumers to think twice about a purchase. She also hopes that Zara will give credit to small designers with, for example, the phrase ‘Inspired by Designer
At the time of writing, the disputed jacket cannot be found on Zara’s website.
