Real ones sneakerheads form an entire community, but brands are the consumer power of the sneaker come to embrace it as both a branding tool and an aesthetic accent. You expect cool sneakers from brands like Nike, Adidas and Reebok, but now brands like Loewe, Miu Miu and Dries van Noten are setting the tone for casual (and undeniably chic) shoes.

As is often the case with major trends, Miu Miu is responsible for the revival of ultra-narrow, close-fitting sneakers. With a silhouette that doesn’t quite resemble a shoe or a ballerina, the skinny aesthetic of these sneakers could be considered retro, but ultimately this is the future of footwear – at least for this year. With that in mind – you throw chunky sneakers aren’t gone yet, but don’t be surprised if you see increasingly smaller-looking feet peeking out from under the hems of barrel jeans or oversized cargos.

Unexpected colors
Bright, brazen colorways are one of my favorite aspects of the sneaker industry, and 2025 is the year to experiment. Combine bright colors with pastels or go for complementary shades or different shades of the same color in one sneaker. Often wearing your favorite color palette in the form of a sneaker brighten up your day and your outfit at the same time.
Retro red
If there’s one color that has stood the test of time and always will, it’s red, especially in sneakers. A pop of red, especially on a retro sneaker silhouette, is often the answer to an otherwise boring outfit.
Running shoes
You have your sneakers, of course, but you should also have sneakers that you don’t actually wear for exercise, because they *fashion* are. Perfectly effortless, yet intentional, this fashion sneaker style can make your outfit casual and comfortable without sacrificing street style cred.
Mary Janes
Mary Janes made a big comeback in 2024 and the sneaker industry is no exception. These are the shoes for the girls with a edgy style and flair, but still cool. Styled with knee socks or ankle socks and a nice mini dress Mary Jane sneakers perfectly practical, yet also cute.
Slide-Ons
By 2025 it will be all about efficiency, which means if you don’t have time to lace up your sneakers before heading out the door, why bother? Of slip-on sneakers you can easily make a fashion statement and show the world how cool and relaxed you are.
Technical twist
Hiking boots have always appealed to certain groups. And now the fashion world is embracing the category with open arms… well, feet. Of course, there has to be an element of style involved, so don’t get too ‘granola’, but Gorpcore fanatics and street style stars have found ways to wear the technical look in a chic way, pairing them with pleated ankle socks, voluminous skirts and pastel shades.
Animal Print
By now you’ve seen it everywhere, from bags to jackets to stockings. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Animal print isn’t going away anytime soon. Whether you are at team leopard or team reptile you have options when it comes to shoes, especially with sneakers. The newest Wales Bonner’s collaboration with Adidas is just one of many iterations of sneakers with animal print/exotic effect which we will see in 2025.
Suede Takeover
Suede sneakers are certainly not new, but with a resurgence of suede in handbags, bags, jackets and more, it’s only fair to extend the trend to sneakers. Brown and beige suede seem to be the colors of choice, but you can also go for other neutral colors for a chic finish to almost any outfit.
High Tops
High-top sneakersspotted on the catwalks for spring/summer 2025, are set to be a big trend this year. Loewe, Chloé and Stella McCartney showed off the sporty-casual styles in their latest collections, and you simply can’t deny the extra cool factor you get when you wear the sneaker below, for example.
