Mikel Arteta has promised that Arsenal will “grit the bullet” in their bid to re-engage with Manchester City for the Premier League title next season in a bid to further close the gap between the two teams.
Manchester City moved two points clear of West Ham United to beat Everton 2-1 on Sunday, but the Gunners couldn’t get enough. However, as the title race enters the final day, the Arsenal boss says he is ready to redouble his efforts to overhaul what he calls the best team in Premier League history.
“First of all, congratulations to Manchester City for winning the Premier League,” Arteta said, before quickly praising his players: “What they have done is unbelievable. We have been there since December. [an] It’s been an incredible journey and every performance is the highest level we’ve ever seen, but it’s not enough.
When asked how the title was decided, Arteta singled out the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa in April as a game he felt his side should have ended at half-time.
“It should have been 4-0 in the first half, but that’s the gap, they were too small,” he said. “This is a lesson that the club should learn because we are facing the best team in the history of the Premier League so far.
“I was there [at City] When we got 100 points, I knew what it was going to take,” Arteta said of the challenges ahead. “No one needs to explain to me what this level is because I was there for four years and I know what you have to do. We are on the right track and now we have to bite the bullet and stick to it because this is the only way forward. .
