The search is ongoing for TV doctor and newspaper columnist Michael Mosley, who disappeared after a walk along the coast of the Greek island of Symi.
The 67-year-old, known for his appearances on The One Show and This Morning, was last seen hiking along St Nicholas Beach at 1.30pm on Wednesday. His wife, Dr. Clare Bailey, alerted authorities after he failed to return at 7:30 p.m., but they were unable to find him overnight.
A post shared in a local Facebook group attracted around 2,500 people on the island who may have seen Mosley.
“A search and rescue team is setting off from Athens, bringing drones and other more advanced equipment to expand the search area,” the statement read.
“Have you seen this man? At around 13:30 he set out to walk back from St. Nick’s but failed to get home. His friends were worried because it had been 6 hours since they last saw him. He His name is Dr. Mike Mosley, and he is familiar to many British people.
Greek police told the Guardian that a helicopter and specially trained police dogs would join a massive search for Mosley on the remote Aegean island.
“We have sent every possible effort to find him,” said a police chief overseeing the operation who spoke on condition of anonymity. “He was officially reported missing this morning and police, firefighters and volunteers are now involved in the search.”
Drones were also used and the Greek coast guard was instructed to patrol the island’s rugged coast. “We are assuming that he may have been affected by the heat and that he may have slipped from a height. Nothing is ruled out at this time.
The dogs, which have been trained by the fire brigade to find bodies, are expected to arrive on the island on Thursday evening.
Mosley is a columnist for the Daily Mail and has produced a number of documentaries about diet and exercise, including Channel 4’s Michael Mosley: Who Made Britain Fat? He is also a member of the BBC series Trust Me I’m a Doctor.
