British pair Tom Daley and Noah Williams secured their place at the Paris Olympics by winning silver in the men’s 10m synchronized event at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha.
The pair secured their qualification for this year’s Olympic Games with a score of 84.48 points in their first international competition.
Chinese players Lian Junjie/Yang Hao won the gold medal, and Ukrainian players Oleksiy Sereda/Kiril Bollyukh won the third place.
Daley and Williams’ silver medal also set a new British diving record, becoming Britain’s seventh championship title, beating their best of six in Budapest in 2022, with Daley insisting the “real work” now begins in preparations for Paris .
“I woke up this morning scared, scared to eat breakfast and lunch!” Daley said. “But once I got into the game and was with Noah, I kind of relaxed and was like, ‘Oh, this is what it feels like.’
“We knew we had to try to qualify for the Olympics and we succeeded – but I think we were playing more for medals than qualifying.
“The question today was whether I could stay fit enough to dive with Noah and then be able to really get to the front of the qualifying round. Mission accomplished so far, now it’s about staying fit to get to the start line [in Paris], so now the real work begins. “
For Williams, this is his second silver medal after winning his first world championships men’s 10m synchronized medal in Budapest in 2022, and he hopes to compete for gold with Daley.
He said: “We went into today’s race just to qualify for the Olympics and we did it and got a medal, so we’re really happy with the performance. Obviously we haven’t trained too much together but I think it was great for both of us. Nature.
“Tom said to see if he was fit enough to dive with me, but it was just the opposite. I just tried to do my best around him and he’s obviously a great diver, so the better I dived, the better we There is hope that we can compete for the gold medal.”
