I constantly keep an eye on second-hand platforms, can doomscroll on webshops in search of inspiration and, as an ELLE editor, am always busy with the latest fashion. How nice it would be if I could stock up on my own wardrobe in one place. For anyone who is wondering, I would go straight to COS refer. The brand showed off the autumn/winter collection on New York Fashion Week and one look after another is a hit for this fall.
COS provides the ultimate fall wardrobe for 2024
In a former fish market along the Hudson River, the fashion crowd gathered for COS’ Fall/Winter 2024 show, featuring celebrities such as Chloë Sevigny, Colman Domingo, Emma Roberts and Emily Ratajkowski in the front row, dressed in the Ateliercollection of the brand. We would see some of their looks in the show, which would show a mix of COS Atelier and the ‘regular’ fall collection of COS.

In that collection everyone should be able to find something that suits their style and complements their personal style. As we are used to from COS, the collection contains little color and hardly any prints. That is deliberate, as creative director Karin Gustafsson out. ‘Where people used to show their personality through clothing, I feel that we now let the personality itself come more to the fore, which means that clothing takes a step back. I want to offer people an aesthetic where they can be completely themselves, but also always look good, well-groomed and presentable. The clothing reinforces the personality instead of the clothing becoming part of the personality.’
What are some of the pieces that really bring out that personality? ‘The opening look with the coat and thin belt is very classic and timeless, but because the coat has hardly any details, it is also very versatile. You could combine it more edgy with a bigger belt, shape the wrap differently and of course dress it up with a scarf or a turtleneck under the coat.’ Personally, I was struck by the loose-fitting suits, which felt sleek and streamlined despite the oversized silhouette. The furry coat with cow print was a crowd favorite, as were the padded clutch and the leather jackets.
The show collection is a split between the regular line – which will now be released in stores in small numbers – and the COS Atelier line, which is more luxurious and exclusive and contains more statement designs. ‘For Atelier, I was inspired by the elegance of ballet and flowing movements. I wanted to capture the feeling of softness in hard, tight dance routines by looking at softer shapes in tailoring and how we can drape certain items differently. The result is that the clothes can be worn in multiple ways. You can also see it in the fabrics, such as the flowing train in the black and white dress, the blouses with wrap-overs and the more hanging jackets with the suits.’ The COS Atelier collection will be released in October.
