The Invite, All Of A Sudden, Clarissa, La Gradiva, and Tender Loving Care lead the way on four nominations each for the 36th edition of The Gothams Film Awards.
Last year The Gotham Film & Media Institute expanded the best feature category from five to 10 slots and the nominees include Club Kid, The Debut, Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma, and Paper Tiger.
Best International Feature nominees include Fatherland, La Gradiva, Possible Love, Minotaur, All Of A Sudden, and Tender Loving Care.
Andrew Scott for Elsinore, Jeon Do-yeon for Possible Love, John Malkovich for Wild Horse Nine, Mahershala Ali for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, Julianne Moore for The Debut, and Sophie Okonedo for Clarissa are among the lead performance nominees.
Sandra Hüller garnered a supporting performance nod for Fatherland and goes against Tom Courtenay for Queen At Sea, Penélope Cruz for The Invite, and Kate O’Flynn for Tender Loving Care, among other nominees.
Three years ago the Gothams removed the $35m budget cap on submissions. Netflix’s The Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth and The Odyssey were not submitted for consideration before the deadline.
La Bola Negra earned two nominations as Guitarricadelafuente is recognised in the breakthrough performance category, and the film is in the running for the audience award, which returns after an absence of several years, alongside the likes of Obsession and Michael. You Can See Everything is also in contention for the audience award and best documentary.
The 36th Annual Gotham Film Awards will take place in New York on November 30. Last season One Battle After Another won a sole award for best feature and Jafar Panahi was the star of the ceremony, taking awards for director, screenplay, and international feature. Akinola Davies Jr. won best breakthrough director for My Father’s Shadow.
