The Media and Communications Commission stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the head of the Iraqi Media and Communications Commission, Ali Al-Muayyad, participated in two dialogue sessions at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, which addressed the role of modern media technologies in promoting freedoms and democracy in Iraq, and the government’s efforts to confront… Digital extremism.
During the sessions, according to the statement, Al-Moayyed emphasized “the openness approach adopted by Prime Minister Mr. Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, and his interest in the young generation and the private sector, stressing the importance of the role of civil society organizations as a link between the government and the people.”
He pointed to “the unique experience that Iraq is witnessing in the field of media after 2003, which is evident in the presence of more than 300 diverse media institutions,” indicating that “the rights granted in the country in the field of media are the best among Arab countries, and that Iraq represents a young democratic experience that is developing.” “Continuously and needs the support of the international community.”
Al-Moayad stressed “the Iraqi government’s commitment to combating this phenomenon, and taking all necessary measures to protect society from its dangers,” noting “the importance of international cooperation and exchanging experiences in this field.”
