On Friday, South Korea considered Russia’s use of its veto to end the work of an international committee charged with monitoring sanctions on North Korea as irresponsible behavior.
The South Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Seoul “clearly confirms that the Russian Federation, despite its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has taken an irresponsible decision.”
Yesterday, Thursday, Russia used its veto against a draft resolution extending for a year the mandate of the committee of experts charged with monitoring the application of these sanctions on North Korea. The draft resolution received the support of 13 votes after Russia voted against it and China abstained from voting.
