Ukrainian forces destroy large Russian landing ship in Black Sea
Ukrainian forces have repelled over 50 of Putin’s attacks along the frontline as troops destroyed a large Russian military ship off the occupied peninsula of Crimea.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said 64 combat engagements occurred across seven regions of the front throughout Wednesday. Russia launched 4 missile strikes, 91 air strikes and 83 attacks, according to the Ukrainian military.
It comes as a Ukrainian news outlet published several videos showing a column of smoke rising over the sea off the southern coast of Crimea, as well as helicopters flying over the sea.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces, together with the Defence Ministry’s intelligence unit, destroyed the Tsezar Kunikov large landing ship,” the military said. “It was in Ukrainian territorial waters near Alupka at the time of the hit.”
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military warned that Vladimir Putin’s troops have advanced along the “entire front line” in Ukraine as Kyiv was forced to switch to defensive operations, the country’s military warned.
Ukraine needs £387bn to recover, rebuild after nearly two years of war – World Bank
Rebuilding Ukraine’s economy after Russia’s invasion nearly two years ago is expected to cost $486 billion (£387bn), 2.8 times its 2023 expected economic output, a new study by the World Bank, United Nations, European Commission and the Ukrainian government found.
The estimate covers the period from Russia’s invasion on 24 February, 2022, through 31 December, 2023, and quantifies the direct physical damage to buildings and other infrastructure, the impact on people’s lives and livelihoods and the cost to “build back better”, the World Bank said.
That 10-year cost estimate is up from $411 billion last March, with housing needs topping the list at $80 billion or 17 per cent, followed by transport needs of $74 billion or 15 per cent, and commerce and industry at $67.5 billion, or 14 per cent.
“The $486 billion is an unfathomably large amount, and, of course, it reflects real needs,” said Arup Banerji, World Bank regional country director for Eastern Europe, although he noted that the high rate of damages seen in the first months of the war had slowed sharply.

Below are some of the latest photos from Avdiivka, a key flashpoint on the frontline
Here are some of the latest photos from the eastern Ukrainian city of Avdiivka, which Russian forces are seriously threatening to encircle.
The images, taken yesterday, are a rare insight into a city that is under heavy siege and has been described by soldiers as “hell on earth”.

Russia has launched a new missile attack on Ukraine, hitting infrastructure, damaging residential and commercial buildings, and injuring at least six people in different parts of the country, officials said.
It was the second Russian missile attack so far this month. Russian forces targeted seven Ukrainian regions across the country, including the capital Kyiv, and the cities of Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Lviv, the Ukrainian military said.
“Another missile strike on Ukraine. In particular, the enemy targeted Kyiv,” said Serhiy Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration, adding that the missiles approached the capital from different directions. Popko said air defence shot down all missiles targeting the capital and there was no major damage or casualties in Kyiv.
In the city of Lviv, in the west near Ukraine‘s border with Poland, an infrastructure facility was hit, said regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi.
He said that two people were injured in the attack. Also, residential houses and private cars were damaged. Infrastructure was also hit in the Khmelnytskyi region in the west and the city of Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, regional officials said. Four people were wounded and a school and a shop were also damaged in Zaporizhzhia, city officials said. Air alerts lasted for over two hours across Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly struck infrastructure across Ukraine. Ukrainian officials have said the Russian forces were trying to repeat attacks of the last winter when the Ukrainian power sector was severely damaged, resulting in long blackouts for millions of people.
This year Ukraine has so far had unusually warm winter weather with temperatures well above zero and the energy system was able to cope.
