According to the press release, Primark has taken a new step in its range of adapted clothing with the introduction of adapted swimwear. The swimwear collection is intended for people with disabilities or temporary mobility problems and is now available in selected stores.
Expansion of range with adapted clothing
The collection was developed in collaboration with adaptive fashion designer Victoria Jenkins, founder of fashion label Unhidden. The line includes a tankini with adjustments such as an opening for medical devices (such as tubes) and adjustable waistbands, and cargo swim trunks with accessible openings and roomy pockets. In addition to swimwear, the collection also includes T-shirts, linen shorts, co-ords, pajamas, underwear and nightwear with practical adjustments that should make dressing and undressing easier. New in the range includes adapted ostomy underpants with leak protection technology.
Broader accessibility policy
The introduction of the collection is part of a broader focus on accessibility within the company. For example, Primark previously introduced a sitting mannequin in collaboration with disability advocate Sophie Morgan and more and more stores are offering so-called low-incentive shopping times. The retailer is also working on more accessible store environments and product lines, including expansions within children’s clothing with low-stimulus features.
