Peter Wertmann is the winner of Lichting 2024. This was announced tonight after the annual Lichting show in an intimate space at De Hallen Studio’s in Amsterdam. During the show, ten new fashion designers showed their creations, including seven selected alumni of Dutch fashion academies and three alumni who participated via a open call.
Wertmann graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. His collection ‘Lost product of society’ takes the audience into the cold. The collection reflects the essence of Arctic and Antarctic exploration, fused with the freedom of growing up in the Swiss Alps and the structure of military experience. On display are garments with icy and rocky shapes. The disciplined, restricted life is depicted by means of ropes around the models.
The jury announced the winner immediately after the show. Wertmann goes home with the Lichting Award worth 10,000 euros.
This year, the Dutch jury consists of Ahmad Larnes, Anke de Jong, Ronald van der Kemp and Tess van Zalinge. The international jury consists of Meike van Lelyveld, Marlo Saalmink, Gert Jonkers and Faye Mitchell.
Class of 2024 won by Peter Wertmann
Lighting has been working with a since 2022 open call. Graduates who were not selected by an academy can apply via this route. Three of them will be selected and will show their work to the jury together with seven designers selected by the academies. A total of 25 graduates will be selected by Lichting, ten of whom will reach the final.
Lichting is an initiative of Amsterdam Fashion Week and HTNK International and is supported by, among others, Meester Koetsier Foundation. During Lichting, ten talented graduates of Dutch fashion academies show their work. The goal of Lichting is to offer promising designers a springboard towards a viable career.
