Baghdad / Nina Newspapers published in Baghdad today, Thursday, the twenty-second of February, showed interest in the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the Kurdistan region and the replication of the Egyptian experience in electricity production… and other issues.
Al-Zawraa newspaper, which is published by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, focused on the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the Kurdistan region.
She referred to the decision of the Federal Supreme Court to oblige Kurdistan Region employees to settle their salaries in federal banks, and the unconstitutionality of a phrase in Article 1 of the amended 1992 Regional Parliament Elections Law.
It quoted the court’s decision, which included: “The defendants obliged the Prime Minister of the Federal Government and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region to localize the salaries of employees of all ministries, governorates, and entities not affiliated with a ministry, and all employees of institutions, retirees, and social protection beneficiaries, with federal government banks operating outside the region, and deducted from the region’s share.” Determined in accordance with the budget law for this year and the coming years and for all the aforementioned authorities in the region and its sub-regions.”
She added: “The decision stressed direct coordination with the Federal Ministry of Finance to implement this and approach it regarding resettlement without referring to the Kurdistan Region’s representation, and called on all banks to facilitate the resettlement process and follow the necessary methods for the beneficiary to obtain it, whether an employee or person assigned to a public service, a retiree, or a beneficiary of social protection.” , on his salary at his place of residence through the outlets spread in the region or the banks open in the region licensed by the Central Bank of Iraq.
The newspaper continued: “The Supreme Court decided that the phrase 11 in the first article of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament Elections Law of 1992, as amended, was unconstitutional, so that the text became as follows: “The members of the region’s House of Representatives shall consist of 100 members, and the Independent High Electoral Commission shall be replaced by the Supreme Elections Commission.” The Kurdistan region, to manage the region’s elections, and the Kurdistan region must be divided to have no less than four regions in the elections, and every political entity in the region must submit a special list and the percentage of women in it must not be less than 30 percent.”
As for Al-Sabah newspaper, which is published by the Iraqi Media Network, it focused on the issue of replicating Egypt’s experience in producing electricity.
In this regard, the newspaper conducted a dialogue with the head of Siemens Energy Company in Iraq, Muhannad Al-Saffar, who said that he expressed his optimism about the possibility of repeating Egypt’s experience in Iraq by establishing 3 electricity generation stations using the latest international technologies.
Al-Saffar explained: “The operation of the stations in Egypt has made them the first in the world in the electricity sector, as they operate with a generation efficiency of up to 65%, and they operate with combined cycle technology and rely on natural gas in their operation, with a capacity of 4,800 megawatts for each station,” indicating: “The station Each unit contributes to meeting 20% of the total electricity consumption nationwide.”
He added: “The final decision to replicate our experience with Egypt belongs to the Iraqi state and government,” expressing the company’s readiness to implement that experience in Iraq because it has the necessary work capabilities as well as having great options and such projects can be implemented.
Al-Saffar pointed out: “The projects implemented in 2023 contributed to increasing electrical power last summer, after production reached 26 thousand megawatts,” expecting a greater increase during the current year.
He pointed out that to achieve a qualitative shift and self-sufficiency, Iraq needs 3-5 years, by filling the current shortage in the electricity sector, amounting to 14 thousand megawatts, by installing three stations with a capacity of 4800 megawatts for each station, explaining that the energy sector in Iraq is in the middle of meeting the growing need.
