The autumn/winter 2025 ready-to-wear collections from ‘the big four’ fashion cities are in the starting blocks to launch on February 6, 2025 in New York. Looking ahead to the coming season, it’s clear that ‘Cocooning’ will be a key word, with comfortable knitted jumpers and fleece-lined parkas. High necklines and long lengths for dresses and skirts look fresh.
After several seasons focused on body-conscious styles, we’re seeing a return to volume in several categories, including blouses, pants and skirts. Layering will also play a role in both outerwear and dresses.
We have not yet seen the end of the ‘quiet luxury’ trend and this is reflected in the main color palette of the season: cream, beige, caramel, chocolate and other neutral tones.
Here are nine can’t-miss items to look forward to.
1. Jacket/Scarf Combination
This trend is already happening among influencers: long wool coats with attached scarves will likely be seen on many catwalks during the autumn/winter 2025 season. This style envelops the wearer and is both practical and stylish.
Seen at Chloé Fall/Winter 2024 and MSGM Fall/Winter 2024.
2. Parka
Inspired by the iconic British brand Barbour, we expect variations on the classic parka. This jacket will usually have a water-repellent outer layer with practical details and a comfortable lining such as fleece or faux fur.
The recent trend is to style the parka not only with more obvious casual garments, but also over evening looks.
Seen at N21 spring/summer 2025 and Rabanne autumn/winter 2025.
3. Dress with Cape
A cape adds an extra element of interest to a minimalist style dress. The cape can be integrated or offered as a separate garment. Fabrics can include ribbed knits and stretch jersey.
Seen at 16Arlington SS25, Brandon Maxwell FW25 and Ralph Lauren FW24.
4. Deep v-neck henley
An exception to the volume rule is the deep V-neck henley or bodysuit, which will likely be one of the most popular styles of the season. Usually made in ribbed or plain lightweight jersey, look for a variety of button plackets, with or without buttons and/or snaps.
Seen at Chloé FW24 and Acne Studios FW24.
- Blouse with volume
Woven blouses have larger volumes, with structured shapes and puffed sleeves. Fabric manipulations include folds and draped elements. As we have seen in other categories, there is interest in the neckline with large bows and intricate collars.
Seen at Dolce & Gabbana FW24 and Carven FW24.
6. Sweater with Fringes
Oversized chunky knit sweaters have been trending for a few winter seasons and FW25 is no exception. Look for sweaters that are richly decorated with fringe, which remains the most popular form of embellishment.
Seen at Isabel Marant FW24 and Sacai FW24.
7. Sweater with motif
Look for playful animal motifs on sweaters. These include intarsia knits, embroidery and other placements, on a variety of styles such as chunky ribbing and Fair Isle patterns.
Seen at Coach FW24 and Kolor FW24.
8. Relaxed-fit pants
Expect the return of a classic trouser style, the relaxed trouser with pleats at the front. This will be made in a variety of fabrics, from blue denim and corduroy with wide ribs to checks and wool.
Seen at Zimmermann FW24 and Tommy Hilfiger FW24.
9. Midi skirt with volume
Midi skirts with pleats or gathers at the waist are a key item for FW25. Fabrics include lightweight wool, tweed and even faux leather.
Seen at Tommy Hilfiger FW24, 16Arlington FW24 and Dawei FW24.
