Amsterdam raincoat brand Maium is launching a poncho made from 77 recycled PET bottles in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum, the brand announced in a press release. The design is inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s oil painting ‘Almond Blossom’. According to the press release, a line drawing of Almond Blossom appears when the poncho comes into contact with water.
This collaboration between Maium and the Van Gogh Museum came about last year. The Amsterdam ‘bad-weather expert’ wanted to create a stylish and sustainable design inspired by Van Gogh’s love for nature and the outdoors.
The artistic poncho is waterproof and folds into a built-in pouch. The design also allows the poncho to be transformed into a larger version, “ideal for use on a bike or e-scooter.” In addition, the poncho is equipped with zippered pockets on the sides and a front pocket.
The Maium x Van Gogh Museum poncho costs 149.00 euros and is available online. From the end of September it will also be for sale on the Van Gogh Museum website.
