Mystik Dan won the 150th Kentucky Derby on Saturday afternoon at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
He beat out Team Sierra Leone and Team Forever Young in the photography competition. The crowd at Churchill Downs cheered as the three horses crossed the track, then fell silent as no one could narrowly tell who had won the race.

Mystik Dan, who entered the race at odds of 18/1, took the lead in the final leg and saw his lead shrink in the final furlong but he held on to win. Betting favorite Fierceness (3-1) finished 15th after a strong start.
Winning the 150th Kentucky Derby on May 4 means a lot to Lance Gasaway, one of the owners of Mystik Dan and his father of a year Passed away today.
“To me, this is for him,” Gasaway said. “Dad would love it. He loves the sport.

Mystik Dan is trained by Kenneth McPeek and ridden by Brian Hernandez. The trainer and jockey also won Friday’s Kentucky Oaks with Sopedo Ana. McPeak is the first trainer to win the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby on the same weekend since Ben Jones accomplished the feat in 1952. Neither won the Kentucky Oaks or the Kentucky Derby.
