Pitti Uomo is generally considered to kick off the menswear season and sets the tone for current trends. Beyond the stands, at the Fortezza da Basso fairgrounds and throughout Florence, the mood in the industry becomes clear during the men’s fashion fair. After seasons full of trends, colors and individuality, street style seems to have cooled down a bit this season. Although some brave visitors don’t let that stop them, a certain trend fatigue is generally spreading.
Simple and black
After the end of the pandemic brought a veritable explosion of colors, everyone was in a festive mood and social media platforms flooded the fashion world with a new micro trend every week, some seem exhausted by this overload of stimuli. They return to decidedly calmer looks, which are based on sleek silhouettes without much fuss and are usually kept in shades of black and other dark colors. The pinnacle are small silver details such as the zipper or the buckle of the shoulder bag.
A bright spot
Overall, Pitti Uomo doesn’t seem to be bursting with color and extravagance this season. In addition to the usual Pitti Peacocks, who parade around the fair grounds dressed in their tailor-made suits, hats and a matching coat, the trend among other visitors also seems to be towards a more classic look, which is related to the aforementioned trend fatigue.
Yet in this gloomy winter time at the beginning of the year, there are some visitors who stand out from the crowd and still provide a bit of fun and cheer in the wardrobe, even if only subtly. This was particularly emphasized by large embroideries, knitting patterns or prints and artwork on the garments. These looks took center stage with this colorful item paired with simpler pieces.
Chic Streetwear
Streetwear is constantly developing and now offers a wide range of styles and movements. While office dress codes have relaxed, streetwear fans seem to have come of age. For example, instead of the gold chain, the tie is increasingly appearing, instead of baggy jeans there are wide trousers and instead of sneakers, sometimes loafers. Yet they do not want to deny their DNA and so these new influences come together with familiar items such as caps, wide denim pieces and a certain nonchalance.
