The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Relations and Legal Affairs, Omar Al-Barzanji, and the Undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yasin Akram Serem, confirmed the joint cooperation to prevent illegal immigration and extradite and return convicts.
A statement by the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that “the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Relations and Legal Affairs, Omar Al-Barzanji, and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ankara, Majid Al-Lajmawi, held a meeting with the Undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yassin Akram Sirm. The meeting discussed strengthening and developing bilateral relations, and ways to advance them to what meets the aspirations of the two friendly peoples. The meeting discussed facilitating the procedures for granting entry visas to citizens of the two countries.”
According to the statement, the two sides stressed “the need for joint cooperation to prevent illegal immigration, extradite and return convicts, transfer convicts to serve their sentences in their country, and discuss consular affairs, security, counter-terrorism, and judicial cooperation.”
Undersecretary Al-Barzanji considered that “these steps will strengthen and develop relations in the future, pointing out the necessity of investing in the great openness in relations between the two countries, and implementing the agreements and memoranda of understanding that were concluded during the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Baghdad last April.”
