The head of the Integrity Commission, Haider Hanoun, revealed important details regarding the recovery of those accused in corruption cases and the recovery of funds.
Hanoun said in an interview with the official agency, followed by Al-Rasheed, that “the authority was able, within a year, to return 18 defendants and convicts who had escaped outside Iraq, and we are currently coordinating the return of 15 defendants who were diagnosed,” pointing out that “the UAE will hand over to us an accused, who is Nawras Abdel Razzaq, a former Babylon health director who was executed.” He completed his procedures and the extradition decision was issued, but he is still hiding in the Emirates, and once he is arrested, he will be handed over to the Iraqi Interpol and to the committee that we will send to the Emirates.”
He stressed that “there are defendants in Syria and Saudi Arabia, as well as defendants in other countries,” noting that “it was started in the Republic of Turkey, which has 101 defendants wanted in Iraq for corruption crimes. There were 102, one of whom was extradited, and we are currently working to recover 101 defendants in Turkey, in addition to a lot of money.” .
He pointed out that “Integrity is working on two lines, the first is combating post-2003 corruption and the second is the files for recovering pre-2003 funds, given that the Commission is the head of the Iraq Money Recovery Fund.”
He continued, “In both lines, there is money in Turkey regarding the previous regime as well as after 2003,” calling on “the Iraqi citizen to provide information wherever he may be to reach the corrupt accused at home and abroad.”
