Italian Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid coach, responded strongly to Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona coach.
Yesterday, Xavi said in a press conference, “Real Madrid influences the referees week after week, and falsifies the competition. The referees are affected, and everyone is watching this matter.”
He stressed that he completely agrees with the statements of club president Joan Laporta, who described the video clips broadcast on Real Madrid TV this season about referees as “disgraceful.”
“This distorts the entire competition. It affects them completely, and this is what even a blind person sees,” he said.
Ancelotti was asked about Xavi’s statements, during the press conference before the Atletico match, and he replied in statements highlighted by the newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”: “I am a professional…and as a professional I do not want to descend to this level out of respect for Spanish football.”
Ancelotti was asked, “Laporta said that Real Madrid is behaving badly… What do you think?” He repeated: “I have already answered that… and I will not stoop to this level.”
He added: “Do not ask me more about this matter, because I will not stoop to this level. It is not the level of professionals.”
Real Madrid is at the top of the Spanish League with 57 points, while Barcelona is in fourth place with 47 points.
