I had just become editor-in-chief of Glamour when there was big news in the fashion world. Fashion duo Butter (also a couple in love), had just graduated and was creative director from French fashion house Nina Ricci. Creative director is the most important function at a fashion brand; you are responsible for the collections, the shows and therefore the popularity of a brand. Nina Ricci is iconic, so this was a huge achievement for Rushemy Botter and Lisi HerrebrughFrom that moment on I was curious about these people.

Anke de Jong about ELLE’s guest creative directors
I heard from colleagues that they are incredibly nice. I followed them through interviews, social media and their shows. After more than two years at the big fashion house, they decided to further develop their own fashion label Botter. Their first show was a success and went viral, partly because of the condom-like gloves full of water. Anyway, long story short (well… not anymore): I am fascinated by this couple. Exactly one year ago, Botter turned out to be the host of the closing party of Amsterdam Fashion Week in the Amsterdam club Jimmy Woo. I had one goal: to get the Botter duo as creative directors of an ELLE song. And so I went straight to my target. I still didn’t know Rushemy and Lisi personally, so I asked Danie Bles to introduce me. I asked the man and woman directly if we could make an ELLE song together sometime. Luckily they were immediately enthusiastic and I went home happy.
A few weeks later I emailed Botter’s office in Antwerp. If they were still enthusiastic, if they even knew who I was and if we could meet. They emailed back that they were already waiting for my email and that they hoped I hadn’t said it in a drunken stupor, there at that party. Could it have started any better? No, I don’t think so. And now, after a few months of intensive collaboration, we have created a great, timeless magazine for you, in which Lisi and Rushemy have a real insight into the fashion world and share all their secrets with you. Everything they themselves would have liked to know when starting their career, they share in this issue. We also made three hundred very special editions, including a full-size sewing pattern for a real Botter, stickers, a sleeve and other extras.
