Gu, the sister brand of Uniqlo, reveals a new clothing line under the name ‘UG’, created in collaboration with Undercover, the brand of the Japanese designer Jun Takahashi.
In a press release, GU reports that UG aims to be an improved version of their existing identity, elevated by the involvement of Takahashi, which was involved in the entire production process of the debut collections.
This new line, which is released under the title ‘Silent/Noise’, offers a reinterpretation of GU classics, such as the sweatshirt, shirts of wide cotton and utility pants. With an unstructured style, UG wants to “bring a light feeling of discomfort and surprise to daily fashion”.
There are also products that are unique for the brand, such as matching two -part sets made of new materials developed especially for this collaboration and items decorated with prints designed by Takahashi.
According to the designer, the product line is mainly intended for men, but “most items are designed with the intention of being unisex”.
Takahashi adds about the collection: “When I design for undercover, I aim to create strong designs that only I can make. On the other hand, UG is meant to simplify the strong design of Undercover to the point where it can be worn in everyday clothing.”
The launch of the new brand builds on GU’s concept of cooperation with leading designers to develop “better products” and learn about their approach to production and then integrate them into the GU offer.
UG is officially launched on March 14, 2025 via GU stores and on their e-commerce platform. A second collection is expected on April 18.
