Glenn Maxwell hit the fastest twenty-first century on Australian soil to propel his country to victory in the series against the West Indies. Maxwell smashed an unbeaten 120 off 55 balls at the Adelaide Oval.
His brilliant knock included 8 sixes and 12 fours, helping Australia win 4-241, with West Indies fighting back at 9-207. The 34-match win gave Australia an undisputed 2-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
Maxwell reached his hundred in just 50 balls, two balls faster than Australia’s previous fastest in T20Is, and faster than South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw’s 52 against Bangladesh at the 2022 World Cup in Sydney Scored two goals.
Maxwell, Aaron Finch and Josh Inglis jointly hold Australia’s fastest T20I century scoring record – 47 balls, all in overseas matches.
Maxwell, 35, also equaled India great Rohit Sharma’s tally of T20I centuries: five. Victoria’s innings was a classic comeback that helped Australia recover from a shaky 3-64 in the seventh over.
“It’s nice to be able to make money and spend most of my time out there,” Maxwell told Fox Sports. “when it [the ball] It’s not about doing too much, but you’re thinking… you actually have to make the most of this opportunity.
“In T20 cricket when you have a couple of short square boundaries you don’t get much and the wickets are really good and real and you give yourself a good platform. So I just thought Just hold on for as long as you can.”
Batting at No. 4, Maxwell dominated Australia’s innings, with Tim David (31 not out off 14 balls), captain Mitchell Marsh (12 not out) of 29) and David Warner (22 of 19 balls) cameoed.
Maxwell reached his half-century from 25 balls and maintained his pace, blending bold strokes with pure batting game. He twice cleared the fence with his change-up shots and also hit a six-over long-on ball that measured 109 metres, according to ball tracking.
“If my footwork is a little slow, I always rely on my hand speed to get out of trouble,” Maxwell said. “So I was just trying to give myself the best chance to use my hands to lead into the gap or get it across the infield, and that seems to be working really well for me.”

Australia’s total is the fourth-highest among T20 nations. The benchmark is 263 for 3 against Sri Lanka at Palleke in 2016, when Maxwell hit a career-best 145 not out.
West Indies never again participated in the chase in their run chase after losing five wickets in their initial seven overs. Captain Rovman Powell top-scored with 63 off 36 balls, Andre Russell (37 off 16 balls) also scored, while Australian all-rounder Ma Marcus Stoinis won 3-36.
Left-arm quick Spencer Johnson (2-39) replaces Sean Abbott, who has also been ruled out of Tuesday’s series finale with a shoulder injury.
