The fashion world loves a good throwbackand so a new microtrend has emerged in recent years: safety pinsThe humble household item was associated with the punk subculture as early as the 1970s and has since been used as a subversive symbol in the fashion world. Safety pins are often used in designs by Vivienne Westwood and were made famous in the iconic Versace dress worn by Elizabeth Hurley at the 1994 premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral. Now it turns out that none other than Gigi Hadid to be a fan.
The safety pin as the ultimate accessory
Recently, celebrities and style stars have embraced the safety pin again.
Whether it is Dua Lipa is wearing a lace skater dress with safety pins, Rosalia wearing a white tank top with a safety pin cut-out or Miley Cyrus in a sheer, futuristic Margiela look at the 2024 Grammys that consisted almost entirely of gold safety pins – the practical item has been popping up all over the fashion world lately.
With latex look
This time it’s Gigi Hadid who puts her own spin on the trend. In new campaign photos for the collaboration between Dilara Findikoglu (the designer behind the ‘dissolved doll‘ naked dress-look of Kylie Jenner) and Heaven by Marc JacobsGigi can be seen in a tiny black bikini made of latex-look fabric and a lot of safety pins.
The matching bikini bottoms don’t escape the household item either – the high-cut briefs have safety pins on each side.
We’re calling this the best swimwear look of the summer. Check out the look in the post below.
