Modular designs are already more than accepted in the interior world, but a sector in which modular design is not yet common is the shoe sector. Thanks to product designer Véronique Baer and her brand methods, they are contributing to change this.
The shoe consists of an upper, sole, insole, laces and a wrap. These parts can be detached so that it can be replaced or combined. This makes it possible to repair wear, but also to give the shoe a new appearance, without buying a completely new pair. In the future, methods wants to introduce seasonal parts such as a warmer winter upper. It will also set up a take-back program for worn parts.
The material used for the various components has also been carefully considered. For example, the upper is made of 95 percent tencel (a fiber based on FSC-certified wood), the wrap consists of vegetable tanned leather and the sole consists partly of recycled thermoplastic rubber.

An entire sneaker costs 225 euros. The large separate parts (insole, sole, wrap and upper together with laces) each cost 56.50 euros.
Traditional sneakers usually consist of 40 different parts and are made together by means of glue. This also makes it difficult to recycle or repair.
There are already brands that offer modular sneakers for the sindkort. Camper and Nnormal include this.
