Everton have abandoned their appeal against a two-point deduction for breaching Premier League profitability and sustainability rules after their prospects of success were remotely judged.

An independent committee was due to start hearing Everton’s appeal on Monday, but the club’s lawyers decided not to proceed after reviewing the reasons why Nottingham Forest’s attempt to overturn the four-point deduction was rejected. Everton face another hearing over alleged PSR breaches in 2023 and the possibility of a third points deduction after the committee was unable to rule on a dispute between the club and the Premier League over stadium interest payments last time . The Premier League claims Everton is not entitled to capitalize £23.46m of stadium interest payments in its account, but the club denies this.
A club statement on Friday said: “Everton Football Club has withdrawn its appeal against the Premier League Independent Commission’s decision which found the club had breached the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules for the financial year to end. Two points.
