Axios quoted US Democratic representatives as saying that the interview conducted by President Joe Biden with ABC did not succeed in allaying growing concerns about his ability to defeat Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Axios quoted a Democratic representative as saying that they will certainly work to increase public pressure as needed to push Biden to withdraw.
Another said the interview was not at all trustworthy and did not change anything, adding that they were shocked by Biden’s refusal to acknowledge reality as it is in the polls and his failure to justify his desire to run for a second term.
In turn, Democratic Representative Mike Quigley said that Democratic voters watched the debate between US presidential candidates Biden (81 years old) and Trump (78 years old), describing the debate as a disaster and pointing out that some Democrats stopped supporting President Biden.
Quigley explained that Biden is not the person who has the best chances of winning against Trump, and that there are many people who could be the Democratic Party’s candidates instead of Biden, according to his expression.
Axios also quoted a Democratic Party leader as saying that Biden must withdraw from the presidential race in order to restore his credibility.
Politico reported, citing sources, that Democratic Senator Mark Warner will organize a meeting on Monday for Senate Democrats to discuss Biden’s candidacy for the party’s presidential race.
The Washington Post reported, citing two informed sources, that Warner is mobilizing Democrats to ask Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.
The newspaper added, based on the two sources, that there is a growing consensus among Senate Democrats that Biden is an unviable candidate.
The Washington Post quoted a Democratic senator as saying that there are people around Biden who are not giving him an accurate picture of the repercussions.
The newspaper added that Senator Warner’s move came after Biden’s performance in his debate with Trump.
Biden’s insistence
Biden said he would be able to rule the country for the next four years if he won the November elections.
He added in an interview with ABC that the Democratic leaders in Congress he spoke with confirmed their support for his candidacy, explaining that they would not ask him to withdraw.
Biden stressed that he is not thinking at all about withdrawing from the electoral race, and said that Senator Mark Warner is the only one who is asking him to withdraw, stressing that he will win the elections.
According to Reuters, Vice President Kamala Harris appears to be a better choice to replace Biden if he steps down from the Democratic race.
Harris posted a message of support on Twitter Friday after Biden’s rally in Madison, saying the president has dedicated his life to fighting for Americans. “In this moment, I know we are all ready to fight for him,” she added.
Some polls show Trump’s lead over Biden widening, and Democrats fear that concerns surrounding the president could hurt the party’s chances in the various voting processes.
