Amsterdam Fashion Week is coming. On Saturday 30 August the first events and shows will take place and the fashion week will continue until Thursday 4 September. This edition there are several points to pay attention.
Sustainability rules from Copenhagen
Amsterdam Fashion Week has entered into a partnership with Copenhagen Fashion Week to implement the sustainability standards of the latter. For the 2025 edition, this means another pilot phase, according to the press release earlier this year. During this phase, the participating brands will be measured on the basis of the sustainability requirements. The complete implementation of the guidelines will only happen in 2026.
The schedule of the fashion week had several brands in recent years that upcycles such as 1/off, Atelier Reserve and RDVK. Now a somewhat activist tone seems to be excited. 1/OFF presents an art installation made of donated and unworn clothing. The program also shows a show from the Reconstruct Powered by Fleuril brand. Detergent brand Fleuril has been focusing on ‘breathing new life’ for some time by recovering colors. This fits with the aim to let clothing last longer.
A place for Modest Fashion
The success of brands such as Merrachi and Les Atelier can no longer be denied. It is therefore not surprising that Modest Fashion brands have a place at Amsterdam Fashion Week. This is not a fashion show, but on a hub that is open during the week. In Maison Modeste, curated by entrepreneur and former Vogue editor-in-chief Yeliz çiçek, the brands Destaniya, Amoza, Maziya and Suits for Her will be found.
Halina Reijn
A surprising name on the agenda this year is fashion brand We Fashion. The Dutch brand lands in the NXT Museum for a cinematic experience, directed by Halina Reijn. Last year, Reijn was internationally in the spotlight through her film Baby girl.
Big names
Belgian fashion house Natan has returned to Amsterdam for a show and is immediately the biggest name of the show schedule. A striking newcomer is fashion Stipendium winner Camiel Fortgens. Until his win, Fortgens was mainly known outside the Dutch borders, but recently he managed to find his way back to Europe. For example, this summer he showed his latest collection on the streets of Paris (where a Parisienne just went on the bike, because who has the time to really wait?) And is he now coming to Amsterdam.
