Target! Bournemouth 0-1 Leicester City (Fatahu 106)
Abdel Fattaw scores a goal at Vitality Stadium!
Lascelles misjudged the bounce of the ball, which allowed Sigurdsson to escape from the left. He cut the ball back to Malconde, whose ferocious first-time shot was cleverly struck under the crossbar by Dubravka. Time stood still as the ball bounced in front of an open goal until Smodic beat Guimares to knocking the ball into the net.
Target! Blackburn 1-1 Newcastle (Szmodics 79)
Sami Smodic equalizes for Blackburn!
76 min: Blackburn 0-1 Newcastle Bruno Guimarães was not penalized for an interesting challenge with his feet off the ground. I think that’s low enough to rule out any VAR intervention, although I’d like to see a replay before I double down on that view.
Target! Luton 2-6 Manchester City (Kovacic 72)
To think that Manchester City have been struggling to score goals. Kovacic received a clever pass from Stones, took advantage of Haaland without using him, and flicked past Krul from 25 yards.
75 minutes: Blackburn 0-1 Newcastle Although Schar had serious handball, he was not given a yellow card. I think the referee took advantage but then didn’t give a yellow card.

Target! Blackburn 0-1 Newcastle (Gordon 71)
It’s starting to come. Miguel Almiron cut inside from the right and passed the ball back to Gordon, who side-footed decisively past Pierce from 10 yards. This is a good goal. Newcastle were much better in the second half.
69 min: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle Anthony Gordon had just denied Newcastle a one-on-one and Newcastle were already taking control. His shot was too close to Aynsley Pears, who sprinted from the goal line and managed to keep it out.
64 minutes: Luton 2-5 Manchester City Ross Barkley was on fire now and curled a shot into the far corner which was saved by a brilliant fingertip save from Ortega Moreno. The resulting corner almost led to a goal too: Barkley passed the ball towards Chung’s chest from three yards out before falling into the hands of Ortega Moreno.
63 minutes: Luton 2-5 Manchester City “I wrote some mildly anti-Luton nonsense the other day, so please allow me to atone,” McMillins wrote. “You really admire this side, don’t you? Watford in the Premier League era lost 3-0 to Manchester City, would have capitulated (and often did), and ended up losing nothing between 6 and 8. Ah… as I type this, Manchester City have scored again and will probably go on to score a hat-trick but the point is right. If only Watford could have found a coach like Rob Edwards instead of finding someone like Rob Edwards A coach like this and then throw him away after a dozen games…”

Full time: Bournemouth 0-0 Leicester City
This is too bad. I was delirious. 36 shots, 8 on target, 2 shots, quality 0.
60 min: Luton 2-5 Erling Haaland
Has anyone heard from Ted McDougall?
Target! Luton 2-5 Manchester City (Haaland 58)
Erling Haaland’s five goals! This time it was Bernardo Silva who fired a simple pass from the edge of the area. Haaland’s low shot went straight through Tim Krul. He should have saved it, but, well, he didn’t.
60 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle When I was covering Haaland’s goal, there was a fierce scramble following a corner kick in Blackburn’s six-yard box. Lascelles’ header was kicked off the line and Blackburn eventually forced the ball to safety.
Erling Haaland scores his fourth goal, all created by Kevin De Bruyne. Walker made a beautiful pass, allowing De Bruyne to clear the ball on the right side of the penalty area; he raised his head and made a low pass, Krul was out, and Haaland got an open goal opportunity.
Target! Luton 2-4 Manchester City (Haaland 55)
Oh well.
53 minutes: Luton 2-3 Manchester City Barkley’s scoop was vaguely reminiscent of Dennis Bergkamp’s erotic assist against Juventus in 2001.
Now it’s Jordan Clark 2-3 Erling Haaland. A poor clearance from Ortega Moreno passed directly to Barkley 20 yards out. Barkley’s shot was blocked but the ball came back to him and he played a lovely pass to Clark who chested it into the roof of the net.
Target! Luton 2-3 Manchester City (Clark 52)
The spirit of this Luton team!
85 minutes: Bournemouth 0-0 Leicester City “Both teams had nothing to show for themselves in front of the goal from start to finish,” our unpaid reporter Justin Madson wrote. “Hats off to Enes Unal, whose first full debut included a missed free-kick and a yellow card for poor finishing, which led to him being replaced by Semenho at half-time. I’m sure that’s not what the social media team wanted.”
54 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle “Despite Souness’s general unpopularity, the fact that he came so close to two major trophies (League Cup and FA Cup… in the same season, in fact the same week) and at one point had a strike partnership of Owen and Shearer was a plus. It’s crazy,” said Chris Paraskevas. “But I don’t think he ever fully understood the area or the club, although some of his own criticism touched on some ugly truths.
“Before his appointment, more exotic names, such as Rafael Benitez, were considered as alternatives. Talk about a sliding doors moment… Instead, we got J̶u̶n̶g̶l̶e̶ of the Cathedral Rumble.”
Was the sacking of Bobby Robson as shocking as it seemed at the time? I know they’ve had a bad start to the season, but only, what, four games?
52 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle Blackburn are playing some great games. After a long pass, Barkley fired nonchalantly from 22 yards, but was pushed away by the diving Dubravka. It was a good save because I thought he saw it late.
68 minutes: Bournemouth 0-0 Leicester City The BBC is showing some highlights from the match. What we missed: Mark Albrighton and Marcos Senesi both hit the post, with Senesi’s curling cross missing everyone in the middle.

“Every time I see Blackburn No. 8 mentioned,” “Something occurred to me,” Adam Roberts began.
Once something like that enters your mind… I can’t watch Timothy Castagne play for Leicester City without hearing this.
Halftime: Luton 1-3 Haaland
An almost chilling hat-trick from Erling Haaland put City in control of the game at Kenilworth Road. Kevin De Bruyne roamed the pitch like one of his superior species, scoring all three goals.
Half-time: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle
The food at Ewood Park is discreet but interesting. Blackburn had the better chances at half-time, but there weren’t many from either side. Admittedly, Blackburn played just 45 minutes while trying to follow up on two other games and looked like a well-coached team – especially with John Eustace having only been in charge for a few weeks.
Target! Luton 1-3 Manchester City (Clarke 44)
Crikey, what a goal. Barkley bounced the ball back to Jordan Clark 25 yards from goal, where Bernardo Silva pressured him. He moved the ball to Silva on the right and fired a brilliant low shot into the top corner. It’s a bit like Juninho’s free kick, only in the air.
44 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle Moran looked a fine player and his 30-yard pass set up Smodic one-on-one with Schaal on the edge of the box. He moved the ball to the left and his shot was tipped over by Dubravka. The ball was right over his head, which made for a comfortable save, but Blackburn looked the more dangerous team now.
Target! Luton 0-3 Manchester City (Haaland 41)
Erling Haaland scores hat-trick, and Kevin De Bruyne’s assist hat trick. It was similar to the second goal: a through ball, green grass, Haaland’s pace. This time he slowly hit the ball past Krul, and why not.
VAR tried to get busy but Haaland clocked it and was offside.
39 minutes: Luton 0-2 Manchester City Both teams lost one player to injury. Luton are bringing in Joe Johnson for Amari Bell; Manchester City have replaced tearful Jack Grealish with Jeremy Doku. It looks like Grelish’s groin injury has returned; poor guy is having a miserable season.
38 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle Blackburn allowed Newcastle the ball knowing Newcastle could hurt them on the break. Newcastle looked a bit sluggish.
35 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle “Peter, your Dr. Strangelove method of controlling mosquitoes sounds more effective than my strategy of playing dead and turning on the lights to try to ‘catch’ the mosquitoes as soon as I hear them start another attack.
“This game could use a bit of Godzilla’s immediacy. Too much wandering and sideways passing. I could Feel Graeme Souness’ disdain for modern football in the southern hemisphere…”
That’s because he’s your roommate. The buzzing you hear in the lounge is not the sound of mosquitoes but the sound of Suey reminiscing about Newcastle’s last trip to the FA Cup semi-finals.
32 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle So be it. The final corner kick was passed to Smodic 25 yards away. He held the ball close to his chest and whistled a sweet shot that was close to Dubravka.
Moments later, at the other end, Longstaff’s shot from a very tight angle on the turn was kicked behind goalkeeper Ainsley Pearce.
31 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle Dubravka made a great save! Moran advanced from midfield and found Dolan on the right side of the penalty area. He fired a low shot across the goal and Dubravka curled his fingers around the post. Shmodic waited for a goal behind him, even though he was offside. However, Dolan’s shot could have gone straight in and that would have counted.
30 minutes: Luton 0-2 Manchester City De Bruyne’s volley was cleverly saved by Krul, who saved from the right and got up to save Haaland’s follow-up. Haaland should probably score. Has Pep taken him as far as he can?
27 minutes: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle This is a great opportunity for Blackburn. Barkley lazily chested an awkward ball thrillingly away from Bruno Guimarães before sending Smodic in with a lovely angled pass. Smodic’s first touch sent him just wide of the touchline before he curled a rising shot into the side netting.
Not a terrible miss, but a miss nonetheless. John Barkley’s setup is a delight and the thought will make you rush to buy him for Real Madrid in the latest Football Manager game. You’re going to make him a star, yes you will.
