Baltimore Key Bridge Collapse: Vehicle falls into water after being struck by boat

A cargo ship collided with Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge early Tuesday, causing parts of the vehicle to collapse and sending multiple vehicles into the water.
A ship hit the bridge around 1.30am.a video Posted on X Much of the 2.6-kilometre-long bridge appeared to have collapsed, plunging many vehicles into the water below.
“Due to an incident on the I-695 Key Bridge, all lanes are closed in both directions. Traffic is being detoured,” the Maryland Transportation Authority said at X.
Emergency crews were searching for at least seven people believed to still be in the water, said Kevin Cartwright, communications director for the Baltimore Fire Department.
He said authorities received a 911 call around 1.30am reporting that a ship leaving Baltimore had struck a pillar on the bridge, causing it to collapse. Several vehicles were on the bridge at the time, including a vehicle the size of a tractor-trailer.
“Our focus right now is on trying to rescue and rehabilitate these individuals,” Cartwright said. He said it was too early to know how many people were affected, but described the collapse as “a mass casualty event in progress.” ”.
