Sainsbury’s has claimed it is winning over customers from its rivals after reporting higher than expected profits.The country’s second-largest supermarket chain announced its underlying pre-tax profits were £701m for the 2022/23 financial year. Nestle, the world’s biggest packaged food company, has reported a fall in sales after hiking its prices.The KitKat and Nescafe maker missed first-quarter sales estimates, the company revealed on Thursday, with business particularly hit in North America. Barclays has reported a 12% fall in profits for the first three months of the year after mortgage lending and deposits dipped.The high street banking giant reported a group pre-tax profit of £2.3bn for the quarter, down 12% from the £2.6bn it made during the same period last year.
