Thames Water will seek High Court approval for a £3bn rescue plan in a four-day hearing beginning at the Royal Courts of Justice on Monday.The indebted utility is seeking a judge’s approval for a restructuring plan centred on an emergency loan it says it needs to avoid running out of cash by the end of March. Canada and Mexico have hit back with retaliatory tariffs on President Donald Trump’s steep tax on goods imported from its neighbours.Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum both announced the counter-tariffs on Saturday night. Mr Trudeau said Canada would impose 25% tariffs on $155bn Canadian dollars (£85.9bn) of US goods in response to Mr Trump’s 25% tariffs on goods. Consumers will see the price of alcohol rise from Saturday when a hike in tax and duties comes into effect.The alcohol tax itself will rise in line with the Retail Price Index at 3.6%, but a new system to tax wines and spirits based on strength will be introduced at the same time.
