The full lineup for the 28th edition of the Far East Film Festival (FEFF) has been revealed and as ever the speciality event will showcase the best and brightest of Asian cinema. John Travolta’s directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, will world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Premiere Selection, organizers unveiled on Thursday. The Apple Original Films movie is an adaptation of a 1997 book written and illustrated by Travolta, inspired by the star’s childhood memories and lifelong passion for aviation. Mary Beth Hurt, the Tony-nominated actress whose demure demeanor drew moviegoers to her array of emotionally impactful performances in such films as Interiors, Chilly Scenes of Winter and The World According to Garp, has died. She was 79. Hurt died Saturday at an assisted living facility in Jersey City, New Jersey, her husband, Oscar-nominated writer and director Paul Schrader, told The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. is again shifting the release date of its live-action hybrid movie Animal Friends. The road trip adventure feature is now set to hit theaters Jan. 22, 2027, after previously having been scheduled for May 1, 2026. Prior to that, the film had been slated for release on Oct. 10, 2025. Alexander Kluge, the German filmmaker, whose career spanned more than six decades and helped define the New German Cinema movement, has died. He was 94. Kluge’s family confirmed his death to German media on Wednesday. A cause of death was not given. Kluge was one of the signatories of the 1962 Oberhausen Manifesto, which called for a new, auteur-driven German cinema and is credited with helping spark the New German Cinema movement. Bleecker Street’s Crosswalk and LD Entertainment have acquired the live theater capture of the Tony-Award winning and West End musical Hadestown. The film, titled Hadestown: The Musical, is set to be released theatrically in North America on July 24, 2026. The musical, with a score and book by Anais Mitchell, won the 2019 Tony Award for best musical, along with seven other Tonys, and is now in its seventh year on Broadway and its third year in the West End.
