Boseman died aged 43 in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer. The two teamed up on Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ set,…

Devara: Part 1 is ambitious, exhausting and so high-decibel that when it’s finished, after nearly three hours, you might need to pause and reorient to reality. Which is both a good thing and a bad thing. In interviews, writer-director Koratala Siva has said that the story is set in the 1980s and 1990s. But there is little of the film, which was shot in Telugu and dubbed in four languages, including Hindi and Tamil, to suggest this. The world of Devara seems to have sprung entirely from his imagination, where the rules are flexible. Devara: Part 1 The Bottom Line Formulaic…

China has selected The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru, a World War II documentary by director Fang Li, as its representative at the 97th Academy Awards in the best international feature film category. The pick marks the first time since China began sending titles to the Oscars in 1979 that it has put forward a documentary, but the choice also continues a trend of China picking movies that stir nationalistic sentiments at home. The movie, which was the opening film of the Shanghai International Film Festival in June, resurrects a relatively obscure episode from 1942 during WWII, when an unmarked Japanese troop transport…
Paul Feig, director of 2016’s all-female reboot of Ghostbusters, partly blames Donald Trump for the racist and sexist criticism the movie received from online trolls. During a recent interview with The Guardian, the filmmaker looked back at all the hate the action-comedy, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, faced following its debut. “The political climate of the time was really weird, with Hillary Clinton running for office in 2016,” he recalled. “There were a lot of dudes looking for a fight. When I was getting piled on, on Twitter, I’d go back and see who they were. So many were Trump…
