We’re on course for the oldest presidential race in US history – and one most people don’t want | US News
This was less Super Tuesday and more Predictable Tuesday. As Donald Trump made his way to the stage at his Mar-a-Lago mansion, he had notched up victories across the country, from Texas to Tennessee, Alabama and many more between. “This was an amazing day, an amazing night,” he crowed. At almost exactly the same time, President Biden released a statement. It was an even more dominant performance for the sitting president, capturing all the states in play for him.”Tonight’s results leave the American people with a clear choice: are we going to keep moving forward or will we allow Donald Trump to…
The Rwandan Investigations Bureau (RIB) has launched an official probe into the sexual misconduct allegations at the Tour du Rwanda, one of Africa’s most prominent international cycling events. The RIB said it is taking the recently surfaced claims of sexual abuse and exploitation of young women working during the prestigious cycling event seriously. However, rumors of alleged abuses taking place during the race had persisted for years without anyone coming forward as a whistle-blower to file any official report. Rwandan authorities hope this finally might change now.Judoka Marie Dinkel: ‘I thought I couldn’t speak up’To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Victims…
Portugal conquered Goa, the beach resort state on India’s west coast, in 1510, after which a sizable portion of its population converted to Christianity — a majority of whom became Goan Catholics. In the first half of the 19th century, a small number of Goan Christians relocated to the port city of Karachi, where they established businesses and gradually grew in number. In 1886, the Goa-Portuguese Association was formed, after which the community made valuable contributions to Karachi’s cityscape and socio-cultural life by setting up educational institutions and constructing breathtaking buildings. One of them is the Goa-Portuguese Hall, or Goan Gymkhana,…
As trade experts agree that the window of opportunity to clinch a deal is closing, Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, last week delivered yet another dose of bad news regarding the trade agreement between the EU and the South American trade bloc Mercosur. While the South American countries expressed their intention to sign the controversial trade pact, resistance from within the EU, Borrell said, was threatening to derail the deal. Especially, French President Emmanuel Macron is wary of the anger brewing among his country’s farmers, who are fearing a fierce competition with the highly efficient agricultural sectors of…
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has decried Germany’s broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) as a “Nazi” media outlet. Maduro made the comments on Monday during his weekly program on Venezuelan state TV after DW released a report on corruption in the South American country. DW was removed from cable programing by two main local cable operators, according to Venezuela’s National Union of Press Workers. The group added it was still looking into whether DW had been removed from the program of other services. The corruption video focuses on graft in several Latin American countries, including Venezuela, and looks into possible connections between politicians and organized…
US President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump swept to victory in statewide nomination contests on Tuesday, setting up a historic rematch in November’s election. On a day traditionally dubbed Super Tuesday – when the most states choose who they think should be candidates – both virtually secured the nomination for their respective parties. Republican Mr Trump won in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia, brushing aside Nikki Haley.Meanwhile, Mr Biden appeared to win easily in 14 states, but lost in the US territory of American Samoa and faces a potentially sizeable protest…
Menstruation has been stigmatized for millennia. The Old Testament refers to menstruation as the ‘infectious time,’ while Hinduism calls it ‘asaucha,’ which has connotations of impurity or shame. “You’d think this means we’d have a big celebration when menopause comes, as we’re not unclean anymore. But this isn’t the case,” said Rachel Weiss, a psychosocial counselor in the UK, told DW. Menopause is still a taboo subject today. Weiss said the first time she saw it mentioned on TV was in 2017 in a BBC documentary called “The Menopause and Me,” and it taught her a lot about the many ways menopause can…
Which teams are involved? On Wednesday, March 6, it will be exactly 100 days until Euro 2024 starts. Twenty-one of the 24 nations competing have already qualified. Some teams who missed out on automatic qualification can still secure a spot through the playoffs. Twelve nations — Poland, Estonia, Wales, Finland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, Iceland, Ukraine, Georgia, Luxembourg, Greece and Kazakhstan — will compete in the playoffs at the end of March in hope of booking the last three spots. What’s…
When German conservative politician Ursula von der Leyen took over at the helm of the EU executive branch in late 2019, she vowed to make the European Commission a more “geopolitical” force. Little did she know what lay ahead. The outbreak of war on the European Union’s doorstep in Ukraine, and the rush to arm Kyiv against Moscow in many ways overturned the EU’s traditional image as a peace project. “In the last years, many European illusions have been shattered,” von der Leyen told the European Parliament last week, presenting plans to massively boost EU weapons production capacity. “The world is as dangerous…
Elon Musk, Tesla’s visionary CEO, has long emphasized the significance of the Grünheide Gigafactory in advancing the company’s mission. Musk declared during the factory’s opening in 2022 that the new Gigafactory would be “crucial for accelerating the production of affordable electric vehicles, bringing us closer to our goal of making sustainable transportation accessible to all.” The facility, strategically located just 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from Berlin, currently employs over 12,500 workers and has been instrumental in Tesla’s efforts to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in the European market. With a production capacity aiming for 500,000 cars annually, Musk…
