Atletico are fourth in La Liga, cut adrift by Real Madrid, Girona and Barcelona. They are in more of a fight with Athletic for the final Champions League spot.

Inter have won 13 matches in a row in all competitions, since a 1-1 draw at home to Genoa in their final match of 2023. Inzaghi’s side have won five or their last six matches without conceding, and have not lost away from home all season.

Inter are earning lots of plaudits in Italy for their performances this season.

Inter start Marcus Thuram alongside Lautaro Martinez after the France international suffered that injury which forced him off at half-time in the first leg, though his goal-scoring replacement Marko Arnautotic does not make it.

Atletico start Antoine Griezmann, bringing the Frenchman back into the side after he picked up an ankle injury in the first leg. He’s not played since but that’s a big boost.

They need to win tonight, of course, but it shows what Inter are up against. Despite having an average season Atletico have won 18 of their 20 matches at home this season.

Last time out: On as a half-time substitute, Marko Arnautovic scored the winner to earn Inter a narrow first-leg win against Atletico Madrid. After Lautaro Martinez’s shot was saved by Jan Oblak, Arnautovic turned into the empty net. Atletico were limited to few chances and Alvaro Morata’s late header was as close as they would come.
