The family of Daniel Anjorin issued a statement to pay tribute to their son, with Arsenal also offering their condolences to the teenager who was stabbed while walking to school.
Arsenal fan Daniel, 14, suffered fatal injuries to his neck and chest in a knife attack in Hainaut, east London.
His family issued a statement through the Metropolitan Police saying: “We as a family are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Daniel. At this time, it is difficult for us to accept what has happened to him and that he will never come home. Facts. Daniel left home to go to school and then left.
“Our children have lost their dearest and most precious brother, and we have lost our most lovable and amazing son.
“We would like to send our best wishes to the other victims of this unimaginable event. We would also like to thank the local community for all their support during this most difficult time.
“We ask that the media respect our privacy and not contact us or our families.”
The statement came hours after Arsenal displayed his picture on a big screen at the Emirates Stadium ahead of Saturday afternoon’s Premier League match against Bournemouth.
At the 14th minute of the game, the audience also raised a banner that read “RIP Daniel” and burst into applause.
A fundraiser for his family raised more than £120,000 in three days.
More than 7,000 people donated to the page, with one writing: “We didn’t know you but we are so sad to hear the news and it touches our heart. Daniel, you were the brightest star. Your legacy will live on.” .rest in peace.
Daniel died on Tuesday morning as a result of an act of violence by an armed man. Four people, including two police officers, were also injured.
Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a dual Spanish-Brazilian national living in Newham, has been charged with the teenager’s murder. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
He will appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday.
The boy’s family told Sky News he was “a wonderful boy” who was “much loved” and a “hard worker”, adding that his death had “left a huge wound within the family”.
“No family should have to go through what we are going through today,” they told the broadcaster. “Any family will understand this is an absolute tragedy.”
Staff and pupils at Bancroft Private School said they were “deeply shocked and saddened” by his death.
A statement said: “We are shocked by the heartbreaking news of the death of Daniel Anjorin, who attended our school. We are deeply shocked and saddened.
“Daniel joined Bancroft at the age of seven and quickly became a core member of our community.
“He was a true scholar who displayed commendable dedication to academic pursuits. His positive disposition and gentle nature will leave a lasting impact on us.”
The school also suffered tragedy last summer when former pupil Grace O’Malley-Kumar was stabbed to death while trying to save friend Barnaby Webb from a knife-wielding attacker in Nottingham.
