The German fashion brand Armedangels has set up a special collaboration with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization behind Wikipedia. The collaboration results in a capsule collection that is inspired by Wikipedia, the largest free encyclopedia in the world. Part of the proceeds goes directly to Wikipedia, with which the platform can, according to the brand, retain its independence and continues to guarantee free access to reliable information for everyone, according to the press release.
Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia in several languages that is created thanks to contributions from voluntary writers. According to the Armedangels and Wikimedia Foundation press release, Wikipedia is one of the last places on the internet where knowledge is not manipulated by commercial interests or tech giants. According to the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant (2022), also warned that the independence of Wikipedia in danger by commercial forces on the platform.
“Free knowledge changes lives,” says Martin Höfeler, founder and CEO of Armedangels. “It enables people to make conscious choices and offers the power to achieve change. Our collaboration with Wikipedia connects two worlds that both stand for transparency as the basis for a better future.” Zack McCune, Brand Director of the Wikimedia Foundation, adds: “This collaboration helps to increase awareness about our mission: making knowledge freely available to everyone, regardless of where they are. We are proud of this creative collaboration with Armedangels.”
“With this collection we want to show that fashion is more than just aesthetics,” said Christiane Bördner, creative director of Armedangels. “It is a powerful means to promote values, tell stories and contribute to social awareness.”
The Armedangels x Wikipedia collection will be available exclusively from 8 May 2025 via the Armedangels website. The collection includes T-shirts, sweaters and socks. The collection is made entirely of recycled cotton, the press release shares.
This collaboration between the fashion brand and Wikimedia fits within a trend for the upcoming SS26 season: the ‘Detox Society’ trend. This trend, as seen at JW Anderson, Bottega Veneta and Stella McCartney, among others, is a response to an era of more and more unreliable news.
