The project’s resident engineer, Omar Ali Jassim, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “The project was referred by the Ministry of Housing, Municipalities and Public Works, and is considered the first of its kind in Iraq, as it is considered a strategic model project for the governorate, as it will rid the governorate of accumulated waste, which causes Many diseases and environmental pollution contribute to the production of associated gas resulting from methane gas released by the decomposition of waste.”
Jassim added, “The duration of the project is 700 days, and work is progressing at an increasing pace, with two morning and evening meals, and with continuous follow-up by the ministry committees and the local government in Anbar.”
He continued, “The beneficiary party is the municipality of Ramadi, which is located 13 km north of it, and it is implemented to high standards that match international specifications.”
He continued his speech, “The project is environmentally friendly and consists of sanitary landfill cells, which is a public area, estimated at 196 dunums, which includes 3 cells designated for waste landfill work with an area of 87 dunums,” pointing out that “the remaining spaces are areas designated for administration buildings and warehouses.” And the workshop, and there are also spaces for future investment, such as a recycling plant and spaces designated for the purpose of storing fertilizers resulting from the landfill project.”
He stated, “The expected life of the project is 23 years, and during this period the amount of waste that the site can accommodate will be approximately (5,400,000 m3), which is a typical sanitary landfill for municipal solid waste.”
Jassim continued, “One of the main objectives of establishing this project is to get rid of waste, reduce gas emissions, reduce the factors that cause climate change, and establish a waste sorting and recycling plant for the purpose of recovering resources and producing energy from waste by exploiting methane gas resulting from waste decomposition or waste incinerators, in addition to He indicated that the project will serve 400,000 thousand people at the present time, and 701,402 people after 20 years,” stressing at the same time that “the project has important economic and environmental dimensions and is the first of its kind in Iraq.”
