Today, Tuesday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received the non-resident ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Iraq, Serge Dikchen, while stressing Iraq’s endeavor to expand economic cooperation with Belgium.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office explained, in a statement received by Al-Rasheed, that “the meeting witnessed discussion of relations between Iraq and Belgium, ways to strengthen them, expand the partnership between the two countries, and the necessity of continuing the momentum of bilateral consultations, as well as the importance of having a resident ambassador of Belgium in Iraq.”
He added, “Al-Sudani praised Belgium’s role in supporting Iraq in the field of combating terrorism through participation in the international coalition. He also pointed to the level of readiness and ability reached by the Iraqi armed forces, ending the coalition’s mission in Iraq and moving to bilateral relations with the participating countries.”
Al-Sudani stated, according to the statement, “Iraq seeks to expand economic cooperation with Belgium, especially in the areas of clean energy, infrastructure and water technologies, in addition to cooperation in combating corruption and recovering Iraqi funds and those wanted by the Iraqi judiciary, and signing a legal memorandum of understanding in these areas.”
The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the position of the Belgian government in its cooperation in handing over its citizens from Al-Hawl camp, and urged the rest of the European countries to follow the same path.
