The Human Rights Directorate in the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced the exchange of remains between Iraq and Iran for people who went missing during the war between the two countries (1980 – 1988).
The Directorate stated in a statement received by Al-Rasheed, “Based on the memorandum of understanding signed between the Islamic Republics of Iraq and Iran in 2008, today an exchange of the remains of martyrs who were lost as a result of the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) took place through the Shalamcheh border crossing.”
She added, “The receipt and delivery process was carried out under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross and in the presence of a number of officers and members.”
