After confirming the success of its attack on northern Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan, despite Israel’s denial that any of its military bases were hit, Hezbollah made it clear that it did not seek to expand the conflict.
An official in the Iranian-backed Lebanese party said on Sunday that Hezbollah worked to ensure that the response to the assassination of military commander Fouad Shukr would not lead to the outbreak of a comprehensive war.
He added that his response was delayed for political reasons, the most important of which was the ceasefire talks in Gaza, according to Reuters.
Israel had previously announced that it had preempted a “major attack” by Hezbollah that was scheduled to be carried out at dawn, and thwarted it, adding that it had targeted hundreds of missile launch pads in southern Lebanon.
It also threatened to bomb all Lebanese areas that pose a threat to its citizens.
While some Israeli speculations revealed that Hezbollah intended to target the Mossad headquarters and the 8200 intelligence base north of Tel Aviv.
While the party denied that its attack was thwarted, noting that it had successfully carried it out by striking 11 Israeli military sites in northern Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights with missiles and drones.
